We are very excited to announce that The Bee Informed Partnership has joined together with our home institution, University of Maryland College Park, to launch a kick starter campaign to help fund our Sentinel Hive Scale Project! Similar to the Hive Scale Program, Sentinel Hives monitor honey bee health in real-time using hive scales to track colony weight gain or loss. In addition to weight measurements, monthly disease assessments will be implemented and pollen traps will be utilized to determine available plant forage. Ashley Jones is a faculty research assistant at the University of Maryland as a part of the Bee Informed Partnership. Before joining BIP in 2014, she received her Master’s degree in Entomology under Dr. Paula Shrewsbury at UMD. Her thesis research was on biological control of the brown marmorated stink bug. Having been raised on a farm, Ashley first became interested in insects at a very young age and has pursued learning about them ever since. Prior to her master’s studies, Ashley received her bachelor’s degree in Biology from Widener University.
